Edge Trimming and Edge Gilding

Book edges can be covered with gold leaf, paintings, artificial gold (foil) or simple ivory for old yellowed papers.

At KOHAR Artisan Bookbindery, the edge gilding is done manually as follows:

- Trimming the edges of the book and

- Shaving the edges of the book for a smooth surface

- Applying the Armenian paste bole

- Applying the real gold leaf

- Burnishing with agate stone.

Several designs with a variety of colors can also be painted on the edge gilding.
