TOOLING

At KOHAR Artisan Bookbindery, the tooling of the front and back covers as well as the spine is done manually in Armenian, Latin and Arabic letters in different sizes, in copper and lead, with decorative designs, or with custom-made cliché. The blind tooling is done with heated brass letters, dyes, pallets and roll tools directly on the leather or cloth so that the pattern shows only a dark-ended engraving on the surface of the book.

Tooling is also done in a variety of colored foils: gold, silver, red, black, blue and green. Other heated tools are applied for gold leaf patterns to give the book a rich look.
